My Hero Academia

No question. You must collect this series by Kohei Horikoshi. Great character design, interesting arcs with different main characters taking center stage, although our hero, Izuku Midoriya is front and center. Classic shonen series with lots of adventure, action, and 'power of friendship' moments. This series does age up in terms of violence as the series progresses, but I still maintain it is a good middle school series for my students.

Popular anime adaptation, multiple OVAs and three theatrical films (so far).

Still ongoing series. Volume 40 comes out in February, 2025. There are several tie-in series if you want to branch out (and I have them all), except I do not collect MHA Vigilantes for middle school.

Your Name

Your Name by Makoto Shinkai is my favorite anime film--beautiful and suspenseful. The manga adaptation of the film is only three volumes, making it a perfect addition to your middle school collection. [There is also a light novel--think YA adaptation of film.]

Spy x Family

Spy x Family by Tatsuya Endo is smart, cool, and hilarious (and adorable). Volumes 1-6 are fine for middle school IMO (but are rated as older teen). Again, for me, this is a must buy add to your collection as it is current, with a recent anime adaptation and a lot of buzz. The premise of the series involves espionage, assassins, found families, fake relationships, and threading it all together, an adorable pink-haired telepath named Anya.

Ongoing series. Volume 13 comes out in English in January, 2025.

Those Not-So-Sweet Boys
Those Not-So-Sweet Boys by Yoko Nogiri is a sweet romance series with appealing, likable characters centered on a plucky, positive heroine and her growing friendship(s) with three boys (one of which is romantic). Finished series of 7 volumes, making it a great option.

MORE TO COME HERE. A QUICK LIST: BLUE LOCK, CELLS AT WORK, SASAKI + MIYANO, SOLO LEVELING, RUN ON YOUR NEW LEGS, TOILET BOUND HANAKO-KUN, AND THE GUY SHE WAS INTERESTED IN WASN'T A GUY AT ALL.
